The Portuguese community in the USA developed several actions to raise money.

“This is a help that will be very useful to us, since things are not always easy financially.” Iolanda Pereira, president of the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Paredes de Coura, still has no words to thank the Portuguese community living in Newark, United States of America, for the gesture.

As Vítor Paulo Pereira, Mayor of Paredes de Coura, said, “there is a group of citizens from Paredes de Coura who never forget the land where they were born and raised. They have a love for the country that is sometimes a lesson for those who live here.”

After several fundraising campaigns, Portuguese emigrants managed to donate around 20 thousand euros to the Alto Minho fire brigade, which will help the firefighters to acquire new materials needed for transport and to help the sick.
