Singer Roberto Leal died in the early hours of this Sunday in São Paulo, Brazil. The government and the President of the Republic highlight the importance of the singer among Portuguese emigrants.
“I would like to say that this is a profound loss for the Portuguese community, for those living in Brazil and more specifically in São Paulo”, said the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities José Luís Carneiro, adding that Roberto Leal was a symbol of the symbiosis between traditional and popular Portuguese music and the various cultural manifestations that exist in Brazil.
The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, remembered “with friendship” the Portuguese singer Roberto Leal and highlighted “his role within the Portuguese communities, particularly in Brazil, with links to his roots, over several decades”, as can be read in a note from the Presidency of the Republic.
